What is Restorative Dentistry?
Restorative dentistry involves repairing or replacing teeth to bring back your mouth’s normal function. This includes fixing issues like tooth decay, damage from injury, or teeth that are missing altogether. Treatments like fillings, crowns, bridges, and dental implants help rebuild your teeth, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile comfortably again. At Center Valley Dental, our restorative treatments are designed with your long-term oral health in mind, ensuring your smile looks natural and feels great.
Dental Implants for Missing Teeth
One of the most effective solutions for replacing missing teeth is dental implants. Implants function like natural teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care. An implant consists of a small titanium post that is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it serves as a root for a replacement tooth. Once healed, we attach a crown or bridge to the implant, restoring the tooth both cosmetically and functionally.
Not every patient is immediately eligible for dental implants, but that doesn’t mean implants are out of reach. In fact, at Center Valley Dental, we offer supplemental treatments to help more patients qualify for implants.
Crowns and Bridges for Damaged or Missing Teeth
In addition to dental implants, we offer crowns and bridges to repair or replace damaged or missing teeth. A crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns protect a tooth after a root canal, fix a cracked tooth, or cover a severely worn-down tooth.
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the natural teeth or implants next to the gap. Bridges fill in the space left by missing teeth, preventing the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place and restoring the ability to chew and speak normally.
Same-Day Crowns with CEREC Technology
At Center Valley Dental, we know your time is valuable. That’s why we offer CEREC same-day crowns, which allow us to design, create, and place your crown in just one visit. Using advanced digital technology, we take detailed images of your teeth and create a perfectly fitting crown right here in our office. There’s no need to wait weeks for a lab to make your crown, and you don’t have to wear a temporary crown in the meantime.
Increasing Your Implant Success with Supplemental Treatments
For some patients, their jawbone or gum health may not initially support a dental implant. That’s where our supplemental treatments come in. Supplemental dental implant treatments improve your implant treatment’s success rate despite any jawbone deterioration or oral afflictions you once had. These treatments can range from scaling and root planing to tissue placements like a bone graft or soft tissue augmentation. The state of your oral health will determine what treatments you need and if you need a period of healing prior to your dental implant treatment.
Patients with receding gums or thin gum tissue might require soft tissue augmentation to ensure the gums can fully protect the dental implant. Additionally, some patients need sinus lifts if they lack sufficient bone in the upper jaw near the sinus cavity, ensuring enough bone to securely hold an implant.
Bone Grafts
A bone graft is often thought of as an invasive, painful treatment, but it truly is not. The purpose of a bone graft is to introduce new bone material to the implant site in the case of jawbone depletion or deterioration. The new bone sample stimulates the area to heal and regenerate. In a way, it jumpstarts the growth process usually triggered by osseointegration. Osseointegration helps with implant success, but it requires an already existing jawbone foundation for the dental implant to root in. A bone graft procedure can help achieve that result.
We can perform bone grafts in a variety of ways, all depending on the patient’s condition and needs. Bone grafts can take the form of bone granules, donated bone, or bone taken from another part of the patient’s body. Sometimes, we can perform a bone graft at the same time as the initial implant surgery.
Soft Tissue Augmentation
Soft tissue augmentations, also known as gum grafts, are similar to bone grafts in that they add new tissue to areas that need a certain volume to support implants. These augmentations replenish the gums, especially the gum areas around the missing tooth site that have receded near the bone or have exposed sensitivity. Replenishing this tissue will help protect your dental implant, as well as hide it from plain sight.
Sinus Lifts
A key to implant success is the quantity and quality of the bone where we place the implant. The upper back jaw has traditionally been one of the most difficult areas to successfully place dental implants due to insufficient bone quantity and quality and the proximity to the sinus. If you’ve lost bone in that area due to reasons such as periodontal disease or tooth loss, you may be left without enough bone to place implants.
Sinus lift surgery can help correct this problem by raising the sinus floor and developing bone for the placement of dental implants. Several techniques can raise the sinus and allow for new bone to form. In one common technique, we make an incision to expose the bone. Then, we cut a small circle into the bone. This bony piece lifts into the sinus cavity, much like a trap door, and we fill the space underneath with bone graft material. Your periodontist can explain your options for graft materials, which can regenerate lost bone and tissue.
Undergoing sinus lift surgery has been shown to greatly increase your chances for successful implants that can last for years to come. Many patients experience minimal discomfort during this procedure.
By offering these supplemental treatments, we can help more patients achieve long-lasting, successful dental implants.
